Latimer Road westbound platform closure for 5 months

From tomorrow (3 July), London Underground are closing the westbound platform at Latimer Road to allow platform extension works to take place at the station.

These works will continue until 4 December. This is all due to the introduction of the S stock trains that will be coming soon to all sub surface lines of the Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines. The new trains will be air conditioned which will be very very handy in the summer months (in fact, it is so hot in London at the moment that we could do with these trains right now!).

During the closure, passengers are advised to board a westbound Circle or Hammersmith & City line train to Wood Lane and change there for an eastbound train back to Latimer Road. For those using Latimer Road station to go westbound, they would need to board an eastbound Circle or Hammersmith & City line train to Ladbroke Grove and change there for a westbound train. London Underground have also suggested an alternative using bus route 295 between Latimer Road and Ladbroke Grove stations.

Judging from the state of Latimer Road station, it looks a lot in disrepair as much of the platforms are boarded up and it doesn’t seem much work has taken place since the Metronet fiasco that took place sometime ago (that is when the private company collapsed). Hopefully when the westbound platform closes, London Underground take the opportunity to get the rest of the station improved. Here are some additional photos of the state of Latimer Road at present…
