Transport for London cancel Northern line evening closures
It was going to happen from next week (5 July), but now Transport for London have announced that the evening closures on the Bank and High Barnet branches of the Northern line have today been cancelled that were previously proposed by Tube Lines (see earlier blogs for full details of the previous proposed closures).
It therefore means that normal services will be running on the Northern line on Monday (5 July).
As a result of Transport for London recently acquiring Tube Lines, it means that they can now review and assess the best way in delivering the Northern line upgrade with minimal disruption and fewer closures.
Mike Brown, Managing Director of London Underground, said:
Following the acquisition of Tube Lines, LU is working with Tube Lines to review the upgrade and hence we are cancelling the immediate early evening closures planned.
We will now operate a full service on weekdays on all sections of the Northern line.
Our priority is now to lay out a programme that gets the job done to a timetable that suits Londoners and with the minimum disruption to our customers and businesses.
The upgrade to the Northern line will result in faster journey times, improved reliability and additional capacity. We will wait to see how London Underground will deliver this upgrade in due course. It still appears though that the Northern line weekend closures between Kennington and Morden are still going ahead as planned.
