Circle and Hammersmith & City line part closure

It has been announced that from 24 July until 15 August, London Underground will be closing the Circle and Hammersmith & City line section between Hammersmith and Edgware Road due to upgrade works at Paddington (Hammersmith & City line) station.

Paddington station is having major upgrade works to deliver Crossrail and improvement works at the station. As a result, the three week closure this summer will happen. But what exactly is happening? Well, at Paddington there is a disused taxi rank and canopy above the Hammersmith & City line platforms that need to be demolished and because it is so close to the line, it means the section between Hammersmith and Edgware Road will have to be closed for these works to be carried out.

As well as this, London Underground will be carrying out additional work on this section including platform extension works on some of the stations to allow the forthcoming S stock trains to operate, the installation of energy efficient conductor rails and track replacement and drainage works.

As a result of this closure, train services will run as follows:

On the Hammersmith & City line, trains will run between Edgware Road and Barking
On the Circle line, trains will be running the old route i.e. operate as the original Circle line

Replacement bus services between Hammersmith and Edgware Road will be operating during the closure.

It will be interesting seeing the Circle line run its old route for the time being!
