Watford to Euston line station progress – Watford High Street

Here is the second blog of the progress works on the Watford to Euston line. This one looks at Watford High Street. This is clearly a work in progress as the signage is gradually being installed at the station. Here are the works so far.

1. The temporary station name signs are still present, only mounted on the fence

2. A view of the platforms looking southbound, a lot of work taking place on the platforms

3. A new bench is being installed on the platform

4. The girders have been painted in white

5. The brand new Overground roundel at Watford High Street

6. It looks like the platform numbers have changed! This is platform 1 towards Euston

7. And the other will be platform 2 towards Watford Junction

8. A brand new shelter to keep passengers warm (interestingly enough it is in the shelter section of the station itself!)

9. Another view of the new roundel, the framework to the left of the sign will be for posters and maps

10. A large temporary sign for Watford High Street

11. Another roundel further down the platform

12. A view of the island platform looking northbound

13. A temporary Way Out sign can still be seen

14. New benches installed at the station but parts of it wrapped up in packaging

15. The newly painted staircases sporting the orange livery of the Overground

16. On top of the staircases is temporary fencing with posters

17. The line diagram for trains towards Watford Junction (just Watford Junction, of course!)

18. The line diagram for trains towards Euston

19. The new ticket machines can be seen outside of the ticket barriers. The station is very much looking like a proper Overground station!

20. Finally, it just seems odd to see old class 313 trains waiting in a newly refurbished station (but they will be disappearing in time)

Clearly, there is still work to do here at this station, but it is coming out really well. We will be coming back here again soon to see the ongoing improvements!

As for the other stations on the line, Hatch End and Carpenders Park stations have got fencing up but no new signage as yet but these are going to receive new signs very soon. We will be revisiting this section of line in the next few weeks, watch out for updates in future blogs.
