Warning! Clapham Junction station is ‘anti-Oyster’
It was announced at the beginning of this year that Oyster would be valid on all National Rail routes (with the exception of some routes such as the Heathrow Express). This certainly has helped a great deal. But despite this, there should come a warning at Clapham Junction station, especially if you are entering and exiting the station – make sure you have enough money on your Oyster card!
Even though Oyster works in the ticket barriers of Clapham Junction station, the station itself does not have any ticket machines that allow passengers to top up Oyster. Instead, they will need to walk to an Oyster Ticket Stop at one of the newsagents a few minutes walk away from the station. It seems though that South West Trains haven’t installed ticket machines with Oyster top up facilities (I recall that there were none at Wimbledon some time ago, please send a comment in if this is not the case). But having said that, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are many more National Rail stations that don’t offer Oyster despite accepting Oyster at the ticket barriers.
So you have been warned!
Has anyone else spotted any other National Rail stations that have no Oyster top up facilities at ticket machines? Let me know! Perhaps we could compile a list for those who are not familiar with the area!
P.S. When I meant ‘anti-Oyster’, I meant the station not offering Oyster cards and top up facilities!
