Watford to Euston line station progress – Kilburn High Road

In the last few blogs on the London Overground network, we have been focussing on the stations that have major improvements such as the East London line and the reopened section of the North London line. But what about the Watford to Euston line? (The Gospel Oak to Barking line will be examined in a future blog). Well, half of the stations are owned by London Underground with very few improvements made since the takeover in 2007. However, it just seemed by chance that one of the stations have seen major improvements in the form of Kilburn High Road which now sports the brand new Overground roundels! Here is a gallery of the improvements at the station.

1. The brand new Overground roundel at Kilburn High Road

2. The footbridge looking northbound. The old one was destroyed in a fire a few years back.

3. Temporary Way Out signage can still be seen on the footbridge

4. A view of the platforms looking towards Euston. You can see the new signage on the platforms with work still taking place.

5. Another look at the new Overground roundel. You wouldn’t have thought this would have come this soon!

6. The staircases sport the orange Overground colour paintwork on the handrails

7. The line diagram for southbound trains towards Euston

8. The line diagram for northbound trains towards Watford Junction

9. The service update information board – notice the lack of Good Service panels? They had to write down the rest!

10. Outside the station is a brand new Overground sign for Kilburn High Road. However, the main station sign is still temporary

11. The new ticket machines in the station

12. A view of the northbound platforms

13. New Overground benches are stacked in preparation for their installation on the platforms

14. The old station building can be seen here

15. A temporary station name plate is the last remaining ones left on the platforms

16. Finally, an empty space has been broken in the fence to allow the installation of a new Overground roundel

And there you go! The Overground network is gradually getting the necessary improvement works although there is still lots more to come! We will be checking out all the improvements along the line in future blogs.
