Shadwell of the past has gone…
During the closure of the East London line station at Shadwell, the old station building was standing dormant. I took this photo while it still existed (taken back in February 2010). The original building opened in 1876 when the East London Railway served this station but was later run by the Metropolitan and Metropolitan District Railways.
But it wasn’t until recently that scaffolds were mounted and the old station building was demolished completely. I would say it is a piece of history lost. But then again, it had been standing there empty since the new station building opened back in 1983 (some 27 years now). Here is the latest findings…
1. The bricks that made up the station building is now found in a skip
2. From the side of where the building stood is now gone – I wonder what will stand in its place?
