New pink Oyster validators at Canada Water

Now with the East London line fully opened last Sunday (23 May), it is now possible to travel around parts of London – especially east London and the Docklands area without entering Zone 1.

So, in order to prevent overcharging passengers for their journeys, brand new pink Oyster validators can be found at Canada Water  tube station. I assume that Whitechapel station will also have pink Oyster validators as well to allow passengers to get cheaper fares by not travelling via Zone 1.

A notice at Canada Water station explains about the new pink Oyster validators.

And here are the new pink Oyster validators in operation.

To give you an idea of the savings you would make on a journey from Forest Hill to Canary Wharf:

Going via central London – Zone 1: which involves taking a Southern train to London Bridge and then the Jubilee line to Canary Wharf would cost £3.70 peak times, £3.10 other times.

Using East London line avoiding Zone 1: which involves taking a London Overground train to Canada Water and then the Jubilee line to Canary Wharf would only cost £1.30 – a saving of up to £2.40.

That is why the East London line is proving a great alternative!
