East London line station progress – Forest Hill

The last time we visited Forest Hill station, there were no Overground signage apart from a tiny few. But, a day before opening of the East London line at this station (which is tomorrow, 23 May), there is now a lot of more signage changes including some new permanent Overground signage in some places! Here is a gallery of the new finds…

1. The temporary Overground signage now appears at Forest Hill

2. The new Oyster Rail map shows the complete East London line in view

3. A view of the station building on the northbound platform

4. For the first time, a new line diagram has been revealed for both Overground and Southern Railway although it has covered up the old one! This is the southbound line diagram

5. And this is the northbound line diagram

6. On the new footbridge which appears to have been recently completed, there is new Overground signage like this one on the southbound platform

7. More new Overground signage has been fitted on the lifts

8. And here is one on the footbridge itself

9. Finally, staff have put up the Overground timetable for Forest Hill station. This is for southbound services

10. And this one is for northbound services

11. Looking back at the Overground signage, if you look carefully, it appears that the New Johnston typeface is stretched? Look at the letter ‘O’ for example. There is even an old sign below telling passengers to alight here for the Horniman Museum.

So, as you can see, it appears that Forest Hill could indeed be one of the first stations on the East London line in the south to have new permanent Overground signage. Of course, there is much work to do, but we will be checking it out at times as the works progress.

You missed some New Johnston direction signs inside the station concourse above the gateline, but a great job otherwise.

I’m sure the Horniman Museum signage (which hasn’t been upgraded since the Connex South Central era) will be updated when the roundel signs are installed later in the year.
