East London line opening tour – Rotherhithe
Now we are south of the river and we turn our attention to Rotherhithe. This along with Wapping as mentioned in the previous blog were proposed to be closed. However, the decision was reversed and hence they are now part of the line. This station is one of few that have escalators. The other one is Canada Water which lies south of this station.
Here is a gallery of the station.
1. The friezes at Rotherhithe have remained unchanged.

2. Looking southbound towards Canada Water

3. Looking northbound towards Wapping. Notice where the indicator boards are? They are above the tunnel!

4. The Overground roundel at Rotherhithe

5. The timetable information for Rotherhithe

6. The wall artwork remains and the narrow exit is seen here

7. Up the stairs and you get this sub-level staircase

8. The line diagram for northbound services

10. Here is something unique to this station. A pair of escalators to the ticket hall and exit and a fixed staircase

11. Just above the station is the entrance to the Rotherhithe Tunnel for vehicles

12. As well as the new Overground roundel are the remains of the Underground cable racks

Don’t forget to check our transport website, London Moving (www.lewminesce.co.uk/londonmoving) for more information on this station as well as the other ones on the East London line! The next blog looks at the wonderful addition to the East London line, Canada Water.
