Changes to signs at Temple

If you have visited Temple station recently, you would have noticed that the roundel signs have been replaced by new ones of what are termed ‘metal-framed’ hollow roundel signs which are mounted across the entire station as so.

The enamel signs obviously had their advantages as they were able to conceal parts of walls. Unfortunately, with the new signs mounted on the walls, it was very hard to do anything about this part of the station wall as there is some missing tiling! The enamel signs did well to conceal this part unlike the new ones that cannot conceal anything!

The photo below shows the enamel sign that was at the above location. Notice how well it concealed the missing tiling?

And just to show you what the signs looked like before the change, here are the two variants. This is the original sign from the eastbound District and Circle line platform.

And here is the other on the westbound platform which is the newer of the two enamel signs.

What do you think of the changes? Let me know!

What was the thinking behind replacing the sign without filling in the missing tiles? More to the point, why were they missing in the first place?

That’s an interesting point! Tiles appear to be missing at many other stations too. Looks like the Temple sign replacement was a hasty, quick fix job!

By the way, thanks for all your excellent comments to date!
